Dubrovnik Matte Painting

This piece is a personal challenge to tackle a matte painting that includes natural elements, like water, mountains, and foilage, as well as some architectural elements. Source photographs were taken by myself during travels to Dubrovnik and the Isle of Capri, Italy.
Hope you enjoy it! Comments are most appreciated.

I sure had a great time with this one.
Starting out with some perspective lines and an idea of a color palette and mood, I started with broad shapes and strokes until a rough composition took hold and things were looking promising. I realized after getting farther along it started to feel reminiscent of some great experiences in China, and so finishing it up was a great deal of joy to do. I hope you all enjoy it!
Best,
It's a great challenge to try and match colors without having the ability to color pick them from a source...so I really enjoyed this one. I'd recommend checking out Kingdom of Heaven too when you have a chance - it has an excellent score and some great cinematography.

I would have liked to have spent more time on this one, but other projects got in the way. Nevertheless, it was a very fun image to work on.
Inspired after hearing the name of a single malt whiskey named Craggenmoore. I present to you the actual location! (at least, what pops into my imagination when I hear that name).
Enjoy!

The guideline for this piece was to illustrate anything that conveys the word "Heavy". After brainstorming some ideas, I picked a field worker and had some idea for the texture and mood I would try and go for. It made for a fun challenge to push the pallete and texture into the gritty documentary look, especially using Photoshop.
It also helped that it was a cold and rainy day out when I finished this one up. Hopefully some of that feeling came through in the piece.
Enjoy, and have a good one,
